| YOUTH SPOTLIGHT - RHIANNON HARRY by Sarah Black |
|
Rhiannon Harry,or ‘Rhi’ for short, completed her first year of showing this summer of 2002. Along with receiving the Area 3, reserve 13 and under Hunter Under Saddle year end award, Rhi was also left with a memory of fun and excitement that will last a life time. Rhi is living in Orillia and attending her first year of high school at Twin Lakes Secondary School. Although only 14 years of age, Rhi is already a world traveller. Born in England, then moved to the Bahamas and subsequently lived in Montreal before coming to Ontario, Rhi first starting riding while in Niagara Falls. She became a proud horse owner as a gift from her parents, in recognition of all the moving and changes in schools she had. Rhi is working with Kelly Simspon Training Center, where she credits her success to coaches Kelly Simpson and Tara Wescott. This year Rhi showed her six year old chestnut gelding ‘Cool Fascination’, also known as Molson in many novice youth and 13 and under events. Rhi claims Hunter Under Saddle to be her favourite event and Summerama to be her favourite show. “My first year showing, when I first had Molson we were not a team” says Rhi “ I was more of just a passenger and he was doing all the work. All I wanted him to do was to go around, and just get through the class and that’s what he did, he wasn’t collected or anything and horses were misbehaving and he just went in like he had done it for several years. I felt so proud to own such a good horse.” Although Rhi had a summer of many placings she remembers placing in the top 5 in novice youth Hunter Under Saddle at Summerama to be one of the biggest highs. This Year Rhi hopes to start hunter hack. As for her future, she wants to be a massage therapist for horses or something that involves speaking French, since she lived and went to school in France. Good Luck to Rhiannon Harry and Cool Fascinations and hope your second year of showing is a great beginning - and look forward to seeing you in the hunter hack classes. From the words of Rhi, “ Just go out there and have a blast!”
