YOUTH SPOTLIGHT - Jessi Spence by Christine Reid

Jessi Spence and her 5-year-old mare, Preferred Moments, are another incredible team who had an awesome 2001 show season!  Jessi and 'Keeper' have only been together for 2 years and already they have accomplished so much!  This year Jessi will be taking home several area 3 awards, including champ. novice youth hunt seat equitation, and reserve champ. novice youth showmanship, horsemanship and the reserve high point novice youth award!

Her favourite event is equitation (she says she loves the challenge!), and her favourite show this year was Summerama because of all the amazing competition! She ended up winning the prestigious Hi Point Canadian Novice Youth award from Summerama 2001 as well as the circuit awards for Novice Showmanship and Equitation.

Jessi has been around horses her whole life, but has only been riding seriously for the past 4 years.  She trains with Kelly Simpson in Orillia.

Jessi will be 17 this November and is in grade 12 at Twin Lake Secondary School where her favourite subject is science.  She is still deciding what she would like to do after school, however she knows she wants to keep riding a part of her life.  Sadly, Jessi has to part with Keeper, as college is quickly approaching, but she says she'll definitely continue riding after college and would love to show as an Amateur!

Congratulations on another great year, Jessi!
