| YOUTH SPOTLIGHT - Jamie Chamberland by Elizabeth Willsey |
|
Jamie Chamberland is one of those very lucky girls that most of us wish were ‘us’ ... she has been raised around horses all of her life. Her Mom, Pat Chamberland showed ponies and then horses, both Area 3 and The Paint Circuit and now works as a Trainer and Coach at the Kelly Simpson Training Centre. You would think Jamie would have been riding since she could walk ... but, not Jamie. Although she was a keen athlete, her focus was basketball and baseball. . .and Jamie’s very good, making all her school teams. It wasn’t long, however, before the ‘horse bug’ bit and Jamie began to express an interest in riding. And the rest, they say .... Is History! Chamberland Family History to be exact - as Jamie stepped nicely into her Mother’s footsteps and beginning her show career in 2003. In her first year Jamie rode a Paint Mare, named Sally, showing mostly in Club show and on The Paint circuit. As Jamie’s natural skills in showmanship developed, her parents set out to find her the perfect Quarter Horse, so that she could join the rest of us at the Area 3 shows. We were thrilled because it is Jamie’s voice that yells out encouragement to all of us, whether we are having a good ride. . .or not. Jamie began showing Decadent Detail during the 2005 show season and quickly became a strong contender for many year end awards at both Area 3 and the OQHA provincial level. After only her first year with her new horse she picked up: Reserve High Point OQHA and Area 3 Youth 13 & under Hunter Under Saddle, and OQHA High Point 13 & under Showmanship. Jamie works hard to develop her skills in both riding and showmanship and there are many late nights that Jamie can be found practicing her patterns and putting her talented horse, who goes by the nickname "Swish" through his paces. . .when truly, he’d rather be eating or playing with his friends outside. Jamie has been a strong supporter of all Area 3 and Ontario Youth members. She acts as a cheerleader and role model to those who she shows against and I must say, looks like she is having a great time, sharing her families passion during the summer show season all across Ontario. |
