YOUTH SPOTLIGHT - Elsa Aitchison
by Elizabeth Willsey

Elsa Aitchson has been showing AQHA since 2003, but had an early start to riding – she rode for her first time aboard a donkey at the age of 5. Elsa grew up on a farm with alpacas and horses, riding often and loving it. When she turned 9 she began the road to reaching her dream to show by enrolling in her first riding lesson. Elsa was lucky to have a Mother that shares her love of horses. In 2003 Elsa’s family welcomed ‘Ima Luckey Card’ into their family and she began showing her talented gelding in English discipline in Area 3 when she was 13. Since then, Elsa and “Lucky” have worked hard to expand their skills and have added both Showmanship and Western disciplines to their show roster.

Elsa just turned 16 years old and is currently in grade 10. Elsa and Luckey will be showing in all around Novice Youth events this year at shows all across Ontario. Elsa is looking forward to Summerama and in particular Horsemanship. With an outstanding record so far, Elsa will be a rider to watch this season. At the 2005 Area 3 Banquet, Elsa took home the award for Reserve Hi-point Novice Youth Hunt Seat Equitation.

Luckey works hard for both Elsa and her Mom, Dianne … who shows Luckey at the Novice Amateur level. The only thing close to the pride that Elsa’s Mom has for their accomplishments is the pride Elsa has for her Mom … Luckey and Diane were the Areas 3 2005 Reserve Hi-point Novice Amateur in Hunter under Saddle.

Elsa and Luckey work hard on their skills all year round, training under the watchful eyes of Kelly Simpson and Pat Chamberland. “I would really like to thank Kelly Simpson and Pat Chamberland for all their help,” says Elsa, “without all their support, Luckey and I would have never done this well or had as much fun!” Elsa is looking forward to an even better and more fun show season this year – if that’s even possible. And one day soon hopes to fulfill her dream to show at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio. Elsa and Luckey will make not only her Mom proud, but everyone at the Kelly Simpson Training Centre who love to ride and show with Elsa all year long.

Good luck this year Elsa and Luckey … you are a wonderful and talented team!
