Youth Spotlight - Emma Storey by Elizabeth Willsey
Last year Emma Storey showed Cruzing with Cash (Cruz) in the Novice Youth and Youth 13 & Under events. Cruz, is the handsome gelding Emma has shown for the past 2 years. Along with showing the AQHA show circuit last year, Emma showed at the local North River Rider club shows. Emma and Cruz were extremely successful and came home with numerous awards from the 2006 North River Riders banquet. Some of these include: Champion Youth Showmanship and Champion English Equitation and they also won the award for Reserve All Around Novice Western Performance. Emma’s sister, Katie, shows Cruz in the Walk-Jog/Trot classes and has had great success. In 2006, Katie and Cruz won the OQHA award for Reserve Small Fry Showmanship. Emma and Cruz had an outstanding first year in the cantering classes and won many ribbons!

Emma trains under the guidance of Kelly Simpson and her assistant, Pat Chamberland. Emma practically lives at the barn with her horse - whether she’s grooming, riding or just having fun with her barn friends. She loves spending time with her favourite barn buds, Stephanie Willsey and Christine Shoniker. Emma and my sister, Stephanie, also known as “Pinky” and “Stinky,” hang out at the barn with Christine for hours and hours! One of Emma’s future goals include showing at the Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio. Emma told me she would also like to learn more about trail, and wants to hopefully compete in trail at the Congress one year. Emma’s favourite class is Hunt Seat Equitation and her favourite shows are Summerama and Teen Ranch.

Emma attends Marchmont Public School in Orillia, where she is currently in Grade 7. She is 13 years old, and her hobbies include playing basketball, skiing, and of course – riding. Emma is also a huge NBA fan and loves cheering for her favourite team … the Toronto Raptors! Emma and her sister share their two dogs, Jake and Abby. Abby accompanies the Storey family to many of the Quarter horse shows. She would like to thank Kelly Simpson and Pat Chamberland for all that they do, and especially for helping Emma and Cruz to become such an amazing team! Emma would also like to thank her parents and her sister for all their help and support.

Good luck this year Emma & Cruz! We’ll be cheering for you!
