| Youth Spotlight - Christine Shoniker by Elizabeth Willsey |
|
For the previous two years, Christine had shown Small Fry Showmanship and Walk Jog with Justa Dream Time, a horse she shared with her mother Debbie. It was a lot of work sharing Justin with her Mom, but it was worth it. Christine loves showing almost as much as she loves horses! A twist of fate brought a new horse into Christine’s life and together they’ve never looked back. Over the past few years of her show career, Christine has been very successful. In 2004, Christine and Justin were the Area 3 Reserve Champion Walk Jog. The following year, Christine and Drifter cleaned up - taking home the 2005 Summerama Circuit Champion award for Small Fry Showmanship, and the Reserve Circuit Champion award for Walk Jog. And to top it off, they were the 2005 Area 3 Champions in Small Fry Showmanship. During the 2007 show season, Christine and Drifter are hoping to add trail to their show repertoire. Christine’s favourite show is Summerama. With every free moment spent at the barn, Christine is well on her way to reaching her goal of becoming a horse trainer and coach. Christine Shoniker attends Notre Dame Catholic School in Orillia, where she is currently in Grade 7. Her favourite subjects are drama, gym and art. She plays on her school basketball, volleyball, baseball, and flag football teams. She is also on the Orillia REP basketball team. Good Luck in the 2007 show season Christine! |
