3 Reserve High Point All Around Novice AmateurWow – what a year for Jessica!!!! Six weeks before the Spring Classic at Barrie, Jessica and her husband, Mark became the parents of a baby boy - Lucas on April 10, 2006. As a testament to Jessica’s hard work and ability – she went on to a successful show season winning the Area 3 Reserve High Point All Around Novice Amateur award. In achieving this award, she was the Champion in Novice Amateur Horsemanship and the Reserve Champion in Novice Amateur Showmanship. Jessica, Mark, Lucas and their labrador retriever live in Wyevale. Her two horses and a pony live at her parent’s farm. Jessica is a grade 8 teacher at Canadian Martyrs Catholic School in Penetanguishene. She is currently on maternity leave, but during the school year she coaches the senior girls and boys basketball teams, track and field teams and runs intramurals. Jessica also plays soccer in a women’s league. As a 3 year old, Jessica started showing a Pinto pony named Sally at fall fairs. She competed for 11 years on the “A” Circuit in Pony Divisions and Jumper. She started showing quarter horses in 1998 with a black gelding, Poker. Not a very positive beginning to the quarter horse circuit. Poker was slightly explosive at unusual times. This year she showed her 5-year old gelding, Docs Outta Crown (Hunter) and next year she will also show Shes An Obvious Lady (Jersey) a 5-year old mare who is currently for sale. She shows in Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship and Trail. For the 2007 show season, she plans to add Hunter Hack to her list. Jessica’s favourite events are pattern classes and jumping. With a previous mount, Jessica had one of those shows we all want to forget. At Summerama one year, her horse exploded repeatedly in classes for no apparent reason. After a disastrous show, it then took her two hours to get the horse on the trailer, with help from two American’s (They used a little more force). Not a fun time!! Obviously, a great deal has changed for Jessica and she is proud of her accomplishments in receiving the 2006 and 2005 Area 3 Reserve High Point All Around Novice Amateur awards. Her most memorable moment from this show season was winning the Novice Amateur Showmanship class under both judges at the Summer Circuit. During her quarter horse show career, she has won a number of high point and reserve high point awards. She hopes to continue her winning ways on the Quarter Horse circuit and to show at the Congress in the future. Jessica would like to thank her trainer, Kelly Simpson and her barn for their support and her entire family and friends for supporting her at the shows and at home. Have a great time with Lucas and good luck in 2007! |
