Congratulations Corey!!!! who at 23 years of age made a life-changing decision. Corey decided to quit smoking and use the money she had been spending on cigarettes on something special for herself – a horse. Little did she realize just how expensive the horse habit would really cost her. Far more expensive, but much healthier – Corey’s first purchase was a quarter horse. She then moved to a thoroughbred, but returned to the quarter horse world and claims she will never go back. Corey’s first show experience was on the A circuit with her thoroughbred. Her coach was Craig Collins who currently operates Caledon Equestrian Park in Palgrave. She rode with Craig for a couple of years and then moved to Meaford where she started her family. She did not start showing again until her daughter was 7 or 8 years old. Corey showed on the Trillium Circuit for several years. In 1993, she found herself boarding with Gretta Hutton. It was with her encouragement that Corey left the Trillium Circuit and started showing on the Quarter Horse Circuit in 1996. She showed a quarter horse that could jump, but was not trained for any other classes. It was a good introduction to the quarter horse shows and she has been showing ever since. Traded The Krystal (Sydney) is a 13-year old chestnut mare. Corey says Sydney is bombproof and a really neat horse to ride. She is an all round horse and Corey and Sydney show in Showmanship, Western Horsemanship, Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation and Trail. They hope to add Western Riding to their repertoire this year. The pair had a very successful first trip to the Congress in 2006 placing ninth in Select Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation out of 43. She had an embarrassing moment at Summerama 2006 when she was the only one loping in her class and Ken had to announce twice that they should be walking. Corey and her husband, Rob of 32 years live on a golf course in Wasaga Beach. They have two children – 24 year old Corenne and Jonathan who is 20 years old and attends Wilfred Laurier University. Corey teaches emotionally disturbed youth at a residential treatment centre. Corey and Rob love to sail on Georgian Bay. They try to get out in between horse shows throughout the summer. They have two Italian Greyhounds named Zena and Gabrielle (after the TV show) and these dogs are their first venture into breeding. In 2006, Corey started showing the dogs and she really enjoyed it. It is a small world as the person who introduced Corey to dog showing, also shows on the quarter horse circuit. Corey says that Tracy Dinely has been a great help in getting her started with the dogs. Corey would like to thank all the people who show with Kelly Simpson because they make riding and showing fun!!!! Continued success with Sydney and good luck with your other four-legged friends!!!! |
